Kellihers Ballymount goes Solar

The sustainable building market is increasingly popular with electrical installers. In 2016 Kellihers Ballymount installed a large solar photovoltaic array in 2016. The installation allows us to demonstrate this exciting renewable energy solution in action. The move follows the successful installation of a Solar PV array in our Cork Tramore Road branch, and reinforces our ongoing commitment to practice what we preach in terms of sustainable, renewable and energy efficient solutions.

Following a very successful trial of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels at our Cork branch on the Tramore Road, and the positive feedback we received at the Energy Show at the RDS in 2016, we  took the next steps and installed a larger Solar PV array at our Ballymount branch in Dublin.

The branch in Ballymount used the expertise within our renewable energy division, Rexel Energy Solutions to install a 4kW demonstration Solar Electricity system. We used 15no. PV panels mounted vertically on on the south facing wall of the building and connected to appropriate micro-inverters.

This 4kWp photovoltaic array is a typical size for a domestic installation, and the micro-inverter system used is ideal for smaller numbers of panels, particularly for installations utilised to comply with Part L of the building regulations.

This system, which has only been in operation for a few weeks, has already generated enough energy to power an average home for a week, demonstrating the viability and benefits to installing Solar PV.
